About Programme

'Should I become a professor? If so, how?' are questions asked by several advanced graduate students and early career researchers. There is an increasingly large number of awareness and mentoring programs conducted by organizations on career opportunities in science and engineering. Yet, early career researchers only learn on-the-job about the clear steps to make it to a tenure-track/permanent job in academia. Another equally important question is, 'How to survive as an early career academic in today's day and age?'. Stagnation, dearth of progress and lack of navigation along multiple directions of growth can hinder one's career progress and more importantly, personal well-being. Therefore, early career professionals want to not only 'survive' but also 'thrive' with excellence in terms of global benchmarks. This course is meant for advanced PhD students, postdoc researchers, early career professionals or anyone contemplating a career in academia. It will discuss key responsibilities expected out of an early career academic in engineering, highlight some opportunities and challenges towards a bright and successful career and also offer suggestions to avoid mistakes. Participants are expected to work through their projects and have ideas that can be worked upon and further developed towards their career advancement. Sessions will be interactive.
