Whether you are sealing high-stakes deals, resolving conflicts, or forging critical partnerships, mastering negotiation strategy is the key to achieving your goals.
A continuation of the Negotiation Essentials Sprint , this course is a deeper dive into more complex negotiations using a framework to prepare for, evaluate, and implement negotiations while exploring advanced topics such as psychological biases, structural complexity, and difficult tactics.
In the Negotiation Strategy Sprint, you will:
Learn how to analyze negotiations using a research-based framework
Engage in exercises with an AI counterpart that will shed light on the psychological, strategic, and structural barriers that can affect negotiations in surprising ways
Build a toolkit for responding effectively to difficult tactics
Understand how to prepare for and navigate the complexity of multi-party negotiations
You will also receive immediate feedback that will help you improve upon previous negotiations with your sophisticated AI counterpart. Go back in time, change your strategy, and replay the negotiation. Review, reflect, and try again!
Inspired by Agile product development sprints, this course is the second of two negotiation Sprints designed and taught by MIT Sloan Professor Jared Curhan, who is world renowned for his research on the psychology of negotiation and conflict resolution and highly lauded for his application of novel technologies in the classroom. The first Business Sprint in the series, Negotiation Essentials Sprint, is a highly interactive course that establishes many of the fundamentals explored more deeply in this strategy-focused Sprint. It is recommended that participants complete the Negotiation Essentials Sprint before enrolling in this one.
By participating in this Business Sprint, you will gain the ability to:
Develop strategies for efficient pre-negotiation preparation
Recognize and resolve different kinds of barriers that occur frequently when negotiating
Build a toolkit of strategies to respond to difficult situations without compromising your relationships
Understand how to navigate the complexity of multi-party negotiations
We do not recommend this course if you have already completed Negotiation for Executives or Mastering Negotiation and Influence, unless you are seeking a refresher of the content.
What are Sprints from MIT Sloan Executive Education?
Sprints are six-hour courses you can complete any time over a 30-day period. This on-demand learning “box set” can be completed as an individual or as a team and spread out over a month to fit in with your personal and professional life.
You may be familiar with sprints as a term used in Agile product development, defined as a set duration of time during which specific work must be completed and made ready for review. With these new on-demand courses from MIT Sloan Executive Education, we are inviting you to think of your business sprint in a similarly, as a set time period in which to work, experiment, solve a challenge, and share your results.
When you participate in a business sprint, whether individually or in a team, you may also recognize research and development patterns from product development domains. We are translating these concepts into a business context where we can employ key elements of a sprint cycle to help solve complex business challenges and turn them into opportunities.
