About Programme

The course – “Large Scale Data Analytics: Theory, Demonstration & Application” is important because it bridges the gap between academic concepts and real-world implementation of data-driven evidence-based policy making. In today’s data/evidence driven world, decisions and policies are informed by evidence from large scale nationally representative surveys for example, Consumer Pyramids Household Survey (CPHS), India Human Development Survey (IHDS), National Family Health Surveys (NFHS); National Sample Surveys (NSS); Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) etc. Understanding how to analyze and interpret data/evidence efficiently from these surveys is essential for any researcher or scholar in the domain of social sciences and public health. Whether one is pursuing PhD or is involved in any study in the domains listed above, understanding and analyzing the above datasets is extremely important. This course deals with explaining theses surveys (including how to decode the questionnaires, codebooks etc.); explaining and demonstrating analysis using STATA and replicating a couple of published research papers.

Programme Content

The course will broadly be divided into the following modules: Module 1): Introduction to large scale nationally representative surveys (CPHS, IHDS, LASI, NFHS, NSS) - Aug 21, 2026; Module 2): Demonstration and Analysis using STATA – IHDS, LASI, NFHS and NSS – Aug 22, 2026; Module 3): Replication of at-least two published research papers based on the above data sets – Aug 23.

HANDS ON FACILITY:
Real-Time Demonstration and Application those having their own laptop and STATA* can work parallelly during demonstration and application sessions. (*The participants need to have STATA and their own desktop/laptop to work parallelly during demonstration/replication).
