About Programme

“ImmersionX: Electronics & Innovation“ is a 1-week, hands-on STEM learning experience for motivated students in Grades 8–12, led by Prof. Siddharth Tallur and hosted at Wadhwani Electronics Lab (WEL), IIT Bombay. The program is designed to introduce young learners to electronics, embedded systems, and engineering design through immersive, project-based learning. While introductory engineering programs often focus primarily on mechanical systems due to the ease of physical prototyping, this program brings the same maker-driven approach to electrical engineering. Leveraging a rich ecosystem of in-house developed tools, circuit design platforms, and custom hardware developed within our lab, students gain direct exposure to the process of building and understanding real electronic systems. Participants will work in teams under the mentorship of IIT Bombay faculty, staff, and students to explore circuits, sensors, embedded electronics, and prototype development through interactive challenges and guided experimentation. A unique highlight of the program is the opportunity to design, test, and build using custom-designed hardware platforms developed specifically within our research and teaching laboratories. Through experiential learning, creative problem-solving, and hands-on engineering, the program aims to cultivate curiosity, technical confidence, and an innovation mindset in the next generation of makers and engineers.

Programme Benefits

HANDS ON FACILITY:
Wadhwani Electronics Laboratory (WEL) was set up in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay with the help of an endowment from Dr. Romesh Wadhwani, a batch of 1969, EE department, IIT Bombay, for teaching and project development in electronics. The laboratory was formally inaugurated by Dr. Romesh Wadhwani on February 12, 2001. More than 1,700 students use WEL each year for laboratory courses at IIT Bombay. The lab has developed several hardware kits that are used in these courses and are equipped with the latest series of electronics test instruments such as oscilloscopes, function generators, FPGA programmers, digital multimeters, etc. Various technical events are housed every year at WEL, including workshops, competitions, training, outreach, etc. Students and staff working at WEL also participate in numerous translational R&D projects.
