About Programme

The Financial Literacy Program is all about how to read, derive, and apply relevant financial information to decision-making situations. Created for managers who are not financial specialists, this program provides a solid foundation in finance and accounting.

This financial literacy training will help you to read, understand, and interpret income statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheets. An overview of types of financing will be presented and you will develop an understanding of the characteristics of different financing instruments. You will be able to effectively apply financial analysis techniques and through that understand the strategic performance goals.

Programme Content

The financial management course covers the key terms and concepts relating to financial accounting. Participants will learn to read, understand, and use the information provided in financial publications. In addition, basic principles of corporate finance will be introduced and the necessary practical tools for financial decisions and corporate valuation will be developed. In this context, we will take a closer look at the determinants that affect the debt/equity choice and discuss practical guidelines to determine the cost of capital for single projects and the whole firm. In addition, the finance course will provide an overview of a firm’s external financing alternatives (debt and equity), with a focus on the security issuance process (IPOs).

WHU’s Financial Literacy Program will address the following topics:

Testimonials

"Great executive program with an inspiring environment. I will rank the program as 55, not only for its quality but also for the teaching excellence of the Professors and the great job of the program management. Their constant guidance, kindness, patience, and assistance before, during, and after the program left a lasting impression. It was also a great opportunity to strengthen my network with such interesting candidates from different backgrounds. After having completed the program, I'm still satisfied to have been part of it."

Consultant, GESPOFISA SL

"Among many courses I have taken in my academic career, I have to say this was one of the top three! Professor Andres is an intelligent and devoted teacher who stayed around the classroom even during the breaktime to communicate with us. He gave me valuable feedback on my questions coming from actual business scenarios. The content of the class was highly demanding; however, with his thoughtful guidance, we have successfully acquired a good financial literacy. It was satisfying to a wide variety of students; me as a CFO, a banker, a startup founder, and another classmate from the social sector without finance background. I really loved his commitment to our class."

Combined with practical insights and hands-on examples from an experienced professor, I rapidly acquired the relevant aspects for my work environment."
