About Programme

Many executives rise to board-level jobs with limited or no prior experience in finance. At an executive level, they are constantly faced with finance questions: building and assessing business plans, deciding on issuing equity or debt, choosing between retaining cash or paying it out, valuing new projects or acquisition targets, etc. This program aims to provide tools to navigate with rigor across all these questions. It will provide non-finance executives with the necessary resources to analyze relevant questions in a board meeting, and provide valuable input to firms.

Programme Content

FOCUS 1: Read and understand a company’s financial statements.
Balance sheet and income statements.
Key ratios (profitability, leverage, liquidity, etc.)
FOCUS 2: Understand and take decisions on a company’s financial policy.
Financial policy
Weighted average cost of capital (the WACC)
FOCUS 3: Value company and projects.
Key valuation tools: net present value, internal rate of return, payback period.
Free cash flows
Estimation of a firm or a project’s terminal value
FOCUS 4: Understand key corporate transactions.
Corporate transactions (IPOs)
Mergers and acquisitions (M&As)

Programme Objective

Have a foundational understanding of a company’s financial statements, and ask relevant questions about them in a board meeting
Think strategically about a company’s financing policy (leverage, cash, payout), and ask relevant questions about them in a board meeting
Value a firm, a project or a business unit
Understand and apply the key concepts to corporate transactions such as IPOs and M&As

Pedagogy

Participants will be evaluated based on three items: periodic quizzes with questions related to the course, in-group work on cases, and a final exam (multiple choice questions).

This program is designed for all executives or future executives with limited or no experience in finance.

Our Executive Short Program is aimed at all senior managers, executives, leaders, functional or operational managers and professionals, with 5 years of professional experience, who wish to acquire, develop, strengthen or update their skills.
