About Programme

Crises are unexpected events that are characterized by high levels of ambiguity of cause, effect, and means of resolution. When faced with a crisis, leadership gains a special momentum. WHU’s Crisis Leadership Program prepares you to successfully navigate your organization through the storm of economic, political, climate, and societal crises.

This intense 3-day executive program designed specifically for experienced leaders enhances your crisis leadership skills as after all, crisis seems to be the new normal. This course offers you practical, hands-on learning and advice through exercises, role-plays, computer simulation, real-world case studies, and dynamic discussions.

Programme Content

Crisis leaders need to act quickly, despite uncertainty, time pressure, and high stakes. They need to clarify the situation, show empathy, while conveying hope and resoluteness, provide communication and coordination, and mobilize internal as well as external stakeholders. At the same time, they stand in the spotlight of public attention. However, crisis leadership is not only about reacting to situational changes but also about proactively seeking new avenues to shape competitive advantage amid the storm.

Crisis leadership is thus demanding but offers the opportunity to demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities.

The crisis management program will cover the following topics:

Corporate senior professionals who want to prepare themselves for their next leadership challenge.
Entrepreneurs aiming to prepare their companies for an increased risk of crisis.
Midsized companies’ top management seeking to increase their companies’ readiness to successfully manage crises.

Participants should have a minimum of 5-8 years of leadership experience.

"The program represents a highly differentiated executive education experience. The clear differentiation of crisis types, combined with in-depth case analysis, enables a more precise assessment of risk, leadership roles, and decision pathways under conditions of extreme uncertainty. A key differentiator of the program is the exceptional quality of its delivery. Prof. Dr. Miriam Müthel combines academic rigor with a highly interactive and practice-oriented teaching approach, which ensures that concepts are not only understood but internalized. Particularly valuable is the programs focus on leadership behavior under pressure, addressing critical dimensions such as sensemaking, stakeholder communication, and governance alignment. In summary, the program sets a benchmark for executive education in crisis leadership and I would unequivocally recommend it to senior executives and board members."
